First, this is the I Grew Up In Norfolk, Virginia in the USA! It’s not I grew up in Norfolk in the UK! Or, New Norfolk in Tasmania in Australia! Or, Norfolk County, Ontario!
In order to be approved to join the I Grew Up In NORFOLK! Facebook Group our Membership Criteria requires now ALL to become Participant Members, effective July, 2022 thanks to FB! If you were a member before, you have been grandfathered in so to speak. In order to become Participant Members you must agree to ABIDE by the I Grew Up In NORFOLK! Membership Rules Agreement. It’s how we determine if individuals meet our Membership Criteria in order to be approved. Your comments/replies/posts will not be approved unless you do!
In addition, you MUST have grown up in or spent part of your youth growing up in Norfolk, VA. Or, have lived in or currently live in or worked or work in Norfolk, VA. Or, have attended school in Norfolk. You must also love Norfolk in spite of progress or changes, or lack of change.
If you dislike or hate Norfolk, I Grew Up In NORFOLK! is NOT the group for you. So, just please just pass us by. Also, we are not about growing our group or competing with any other Norfolk group. But, rather to maintain a steady growth of our quality community of individuals who prefer a fun, welcoming, drama free family oriented environment which does NOT include soap boxing, heated debates, politics, racism, hate, bullying. You must not openly disrespect our group; the admins, nor other members.
The I Grew Up in Norfolk FACEBOOK! Group has been open since March 3, 2010 and has grown to 57,200 members as of June 13, 2025.
What we are about:
We are a community of folks who grew up in, went to school in, worked in or hung out in Norfolk who are daily sharing cherished memories or reading them about their time in Norfolk, VA. And at times, special places in the surrounding areas. In addition, our members also share vintage to current photos as well as historical information, facts and content. Many members also have been able to reconnect with long lost friends, too. It’s also a great venue for the multitude of members who no longer reside in Norfolk, VA to be able to stay in touch with their hometown on a daily basis and connect with a group community that loves them for Norfolk. Our I Grew Up In Norfolk FB Community remains the most popular; ever growing, well managed FB group focused as we stated above. We see ourselves as the caretakers of all of the content shared by our members going back to March, 2010. And we take that seriously. Thank you to all who’ve joined over the years and those who will be as we grow.
